On Thursday and Friday of this week The Age newspaper’s website featured two almost identical articles about a group of Melbourne tourists who booked a cruise to Alaska. On one day of their tour the itinerary took them to the town of Sitka, not Skagway as the travel agent had told them. They’d had hoodies made with all the towns listed, so were quite upset. They sued the travel agent for $9999 but were awarded $250 each.

This was considered notable enough to feature on the front page of the website of what I used to think was Melbourne’s premier newspaper.

Yeah, reducing editorial staff and putting that sort of story behind a paywall will fix their problems.

If I could have any bike in the world, I suspect I would choose to have one built by Sacha White of Vanilla cycles. Unfortunately, according to the website: “as of June 2011, the wait for a custom Vanilla is over 5 years”. I also suspect that if you have to ask the price, you probably can’t afford one. Although, I guess you have 5 years to save.
